a. INTRODUCTION

Implementing and following the teachings of Islam has always been the goal of Muslim scholars (akaabir) throughout the Islamic history. The ways they adopted to convey the message of Islam varied from place to place and time to time. They spent whole of their lives teaching the true Islamic values, spreading Islam by showing high standards of moral conduct and strong character and serving humanity irrespective of race, cast and religion. To fulfill the same mission of serving humanity irrespective of race, cast and religion, we established Madani Trust under the kind guidance and supervision of Maulana Mufti Mohammad Saeed Khan Sahib.

Madani Memorial Hospital was established in 1993. The foundations were laid down in a rural area known as TRET which is located approximately 30 kilometers North-West of Rawalpindi/Islamabad, the common meeting point of a vast number of remote villages.

The objectives and goals of Madani Trust are:

  • To establish hospitals in rural areas with no access to medical facilities.

  • To establish schools and colleges providing basic modern education that meets the need of the modern world and also maintains and promotes the ideology and spirit of Islam.

  • To serve the suffering and deprived masses by providing domestic, financial, medical, and educational assistance.

  • To setup an institution in order to provide the post war poverty stricken Afghan childern with boarding/loadging and eucational assistance.

b. SERVICES

Services provided by Madani Trust focused on rural development include:

  • Providing free and minimum affordable cost medical facilities to multitudes for more than ten years.

  • Providing free emergency and casualty facilities for road traffic accidents within 30-40 miles radius from the hospital.

  • Special attention is being paid for the development of Maternal and Child healthcare.

  • Providing Obstetric and Gynecology facilities.

  • An operation theater has been established recently in the rural hospital where a large number of common surgical and gynecological operations have been conducted so far, including certain emergencies where shifting of patients to the city or delay in time could cause serious complications and even death. Efforts are under way to attain necessary equipment and expertise for advanced surgical procedures.

  • A laboratory facility has been provided to the hospital for routine medical testing, and a large number of patients are benefiting daily. Measures to upgrade the Laboratory are also under way.

  • A big 500 bedded General Hospital with special attention to Obstetric and Gynecology department is also being planned over the same land.

  • Free medical care is provided for minor medical problems that can trigger major health problems in future such as diabetes/blood pressure. If a proper treatment is not provided in a timely manner this can cause stroke etc.

  • A well developed Alms-House / Old-House is also one of our major projects that has been run successfully for the last three years.

After several years of hard work under this shelter, the trust has become a major and sole resource for the local people in terms of their medical and other basic needs. We desperately need now the extension of the hospital along with provision of round the clock medical assistance as well as the maintenance of services.

b.1. Madarsa for the Holy Quran

A Madarsa for learning the Holy Quran is also established on one of the floors of the hospital where presently a group of 40 students are studying under the expert guidance of two devoted teachers (Qari Sahibs). All of their expenses regarding foods, clothes and other necessities along with medical care are being provided by the Trust. Alhamdulillah 60 students have completed their learning of the Holy Quran from the Madrasa during the past 5 years.

To further achieve the goals of our mainstay we have purchased a land of over 50 kanals for the development of an educational institution capable of providing a high standard of contemporary and Islamic education. The institution will Insha'Allah fulfill the requirements of a complete Islamic education for the Muslim children living in North America and Europe in addition to those in Pakistan.

b.2. Alms-House (Langer khana)

Setting up of an Alms-house two years ago was a great deed done by Hazrat Maulana Mufti Saeed Khan Sahib, which is a great blessing for the destitute.

  • Free food is supplied three times a day to hundreds of people visiting from local and remote areas.
  • Over 150 flour bags are distributed to deserving families every month.
  • Basic personal needs and financial assistance is distributed to a large number of deserving families.

b.3. Water Supply

A large amount of money is being spent every year to supply water from natural mountains to the places where there was no supply of water and regular maintenance of these waterways. For a long-term solution to water shortage problem, tube wells are also being installed. Water management infrastructure is also built to supply water to each house. Though still insufficient, it becomes a great blessing during water shortage days.

c. Expenditures

Here is the brief summary of the expenditures incurred:

  • About 9 million rupees were spent over construction of three stories of the Hospital including the medical equipment and a small mosque and library.
  • Over 35 lack rupees were spent to purchase land of over 50 kanals for the School, Mosque and residential areas for the teachers, students and other staff members.
  • Over 30 lacks of rupees are spent each year for running the Hospital, Alms-House and other associated activities.

The funding for the whole project was carried out via the following sources:

Through donations by friends, our relatives and ourselves: Most of the funds were collected through the influence and efforts by Maulana Mufti Mohammad Saeed Sahib. Investment of about ten lacks was received as a part of business in the hospital but was later converted to loan because of the persistent loss.

c. Issues / Concerns

  • To re-pay the loans. A huge amount of money had been borrowed from time to time to continue the project. That amount by now has reached upto 40 lacks. We did not contact banks for the loan because of the 'interest' involved in the procedure. Instead, we borrowed the money by our personal contacts and mostly on behalf of Maulana Mufti Mohammad Saeed Saheb on the promise of early return by raising funds of the TRUST. (The list of those benefactors is available in our record.)
  • Continuous collection of funds (about Pak Rs. 3 million per year) for running the hospital, the alms-house (lunger khana) and other associated activities as described above.
  • Collection of funds to purchase the equipments for the Operation Theater, Labor Room, X-ray department and Laboratory (i.e. Anesthesia Machine, Electric Diathermy, Operation Tables, Operation Theater Lights, Cardiac Monitors with DC Shock, Suction Machines, Fetal Monitors, Ultrasound Machines, Spectrophotometers/Lab. Systems, Microscopes, Diagnostic Kits and X-ray Machines 500MA with fluoroscopy).
  • Collection of Zakat / Sadaqah for running the Madarsa.
  • A payment of about 10 lacks of Rupees has been done for the land purchased at Chattar, (20 kilometers from Islamabad/Rawalpindi, towards Murree) for the extension and promotion of the present project. Amount of Rs. 20 lacks is to be paid to the owners of the land of over 50 kanals area, during the next six months. The projects includes construction of a 500 bedded General Hospital, a high standard school for about 1000 students, a mosque, a high standard madarsa for teaching of the Holy Quran, hostels and residential areas, Alms-house with residential facilities for the poor neglected and handicaps. The contour planning of the land has been done and the detailed planning and architectural work is underway. (Cost not yet estimated.)

The whole task appears to be difficult but not impossible, of course. Your contributions and our mutual efforts can make it possible. The groundwork has been done and the work has been started. If someone thinks that he could run and manage the whole project in a better way, he is welcome. If sincerely taken we shall not hesitate to hand over and work under anyone's kind guidance for the sake of Allah Subhanu wa Taa'la. All the efforts so far accomplished have been for the pleasure of Allah Subhanu wa Taa'la, and serving His creation is the basic way to serve Allah Subhanu wa Taa'la.
